Nothing about Saitama passes the eyeball test when it comes to superheroes, from his lifeless expression to his bald head to his unimpressive physique. However, this average-looking guy has a not-so-average problem – he just can’t seem to find an opponent strong enough to take on! For three years, Saitama has defeated countless monsters, but no one knows about him… That’s because he isn’t in the Hero Association’s registry! Together with Genos, Saitama decides to take the Hero Association’s test! But can they pass?!
I don’t have the fourth volume so there will be a delay for the next One-Punch Man review, I’m sorry. And also, this contains spoilers! So if you do not want to be spoiled on this volume or if you haven’t read it yet, stop right here ✋
This volume had a couple small storylines, most dealt with the Hero Association. The first chapter dealt with Saitama and Genos going to the Hero Association to be registered as heroes. It was a great chapter, full of funny moments (like when they got their results back) and also shows of strength. The second chapter was about Genos and Saitama sparring as a part of Genos’ training. This was my favorite chapter because we get to see both battle against one another instead of enemies/monsters, which was nice (even though Saitama didn’t really give his all against Genos, since he would end up killing him). The third chapter dealt with Saitama trying to keep his rank in the Hero Association since anyone from Class-C who doesn’t do anything for a week ends up getting kicked out of the Association. It was kind of funny how Saitama freaked out once Genos told him, after he moved in Saitama’s apartment. The third chapter leads into the fourth since we meet Sonic again as he attempts to get Saitama to face him. Even though Sonic is my favorite character currently, what he did to get Saitama’s attention was really terrible. The ‘final’, I’m putting that in quotation marks since technically its not the end of the volume, chapter dealt with the Hero Association trying to figure out why there is an influx of monsters in town Z. This was also a great chapter because we get to see other heroes attempting to beat a monster that Saitama ends up killing for them. There are also two bonus chapters called Summer and A New Wind Blows. Summer is set during Saitama’s training days and also the present as he faces two similar creatures. A New Wind Blows is where we meet Terrible Tornado and Saitama ends up renewing another heroes faith in being a hero.
What is your favorite moment from this volume?
